Settling Your Puppy into Your Home
in Wimbledon

As an experienced puppy trainer based in Wimbledon, I can help you overcome common problems new puppy owners face, supporting you to navigate the early days.

Bringing Your Puppy Home

Your puppy is finally with you…and reality bites. Quite literally!

There’s nothing more exciting than bringing your new puppy home after all the anticipation and preparation and then in all honesty… the sparkle of the first day or so together starts to fade, fast.

You’re left with a gorgeous little land shark who seems to want to wreck your house, deprive you of sleep, attack your feet when you walk past, and don’t even talk about the ‘hound from hell’ hour. You start to question whether this was a good decision. There’s no point denying it. Puppies are hard work!

With some practical guidance from myself, an experienced puppy trainer in London, the early exhausting days with your new puppy can be far easier and a lot more fun.

I’ve helped hundreds of owners settle their puppies at home with smooth toilet training, ethical crate training, managing play-biting and all things puppy-related. I’ve also been there and got the T-shirt (and the holes in it to prove it). Most importantly I can help you understand your canine family member and show you how to build a loving bond with your pup that will last a lifetime.

How To Settle a New Puppy

The Puppy Settling In Consultation includes:

  • In Depth 1:1 Consultation

A 1.5-hour face-to-face consultation in the comfort of your own home in South London. This takes place within the first three to four weeks of your puppy’s arrival, to discuss the progress you’ve made and the challenges you’ve been facing.

  • Practical and pragmatic advice

Clear guidance tailored to the needs of you and your puppy. We can cover topics such as toilet training, managing play-biting, setting your puppy up to prevent separation anxiety, settled sleep as soon as the puppy is ready, a suggested daily routine and a helpful sense check around nutrition.

  • Puppy Assessment

An assessment of your puppy’s temperament so that you have a true understanding of how to bond with them, motivating them during the sensitive early days that mould life-long learning.

  • Personalised Plan

This will detail the topics we’ve discussed during our session alongside a comprehensive shopping list of any equipment, toys and enrichment products to make life with your puppy plain sailing. Your puppy will have had a chance to test a few of these during our session together so that you can see the benefits.

  • Direct Access

Get in touch via Voxer for up to two weeks after our consultation, should you need any further guidance or troubleshooting.

  • Top Tips for Life

Advice on successful socialisation and habituation.

  • Empathetic Support

Banish the puppy blues with someone who’s been in your shoes.

I would totally recommend Lottie

“We’re experienced dog owners so we were aware how important it is to get things right from day one. Lottie’s help was invaluable. It’s easy to be bombarded with information when you get a puppy but Lottie gave advice based on our situation. After a short while, Frieda was fully crate trained, sleeps through the night and is doing very well with her toilet training.”

Puppy Settling In Consultation
FAQs

  • The Settling In Consultation is ideal from the first few days having collected your puppy up until approximately 4 weeks after collection. I can absolutely see you to help with the common puppy problems that occur in the early days, but the sooner I help you get on top of things, the easier they are to resolve.

  • No, I can absolutely help you with settling a dog you are welcoming, perhaps as a rescue or a rehomed dog. I would tailor our session and advice to be relevant to the different needs your dog has and challenges you’re facing.

Or why not check out my Dog Training page?

  • Well, the trouble with the internet is that there’s no way of knowing what’s good advice and what’s bad. The sad fact is that our entire industry is highly unregulated which means without any kind of qualifications, someone can call themselves a dog trainer and of course, put their advice out to the ether. As a certified and experienced trainer I’ve seen first-hand the damaging effects of bad advice and poor training techniques so encourage you to seek the guidance of an accredited and certified trainer who uses ethical and evidence based advice.

  • I’m lucky enough to work with some wonderful owners who frankly just train perpetually for fun. This means I can often ask one of them to relinquish their training space (and give them a little more homework) to see new clients normally within a week of our first contact.

There are times when a waiting list builds up so booking early to avoid having to wait is helpful.

  • I use only kind, reward-based training methods ensuring that they are practical, effective and based upon sound evidence. I will never use harsh handling, corrections, punishment or intimidation and the welfare of your puppy will always be paramount within our training sessions.
