Puppy School Training Classes
in Wimbledon

Small group puppy classes teaching you to train your puppy the life-skills they need to develop into a social, confident and well-mannered London dog.

For many owners, taking their new puppy to a group training class is a rite of passage.

Our small, friendly classes are a fantastic way to teach your puppy the basic obedience and broad range of life-skills that will give them great foundations. Using fun, effective and positive training methods you will build a lasting relationship based upon the ability to communicate with each other successfully.

Puppy School is a set of 6 structured training classes developed by internationally renowned trainer and Clinical Behaviourist Gwen Bailey.

You’ll have the joy and pleasure of training with a small group of other puppies and their owners to share in your experience, and crucially teach your puppy in a controlled amount of distraction.

You’re guaranteed a carefully designed and comprehensive programme, gradually progressing from easy to more complex, building on your puppy's understanding and reliability each week as well focusing on prevention of problem behaviours.

Puppy Classes
FAQs

  • We accept puppies with their first vaccinations and thoroughly check all vaccination records before the start of a new course. We are recommended by local veterinarians on this basis but always suggest you check with your puppy’s own vet as to whether they are happy for you to attend with first vaccination only.

  • Nope, I’m afraid not. Unlike other local classes we’re not a hop-on, hop-off class so you can’t join a course that’s already begun. The Puppy School curriculum is carefully structured and designed to gently lift your skills and puppy’s training week-on-week, so if you’ve missed multiple weeks, you won’t get the best out of our teaching. You will progress with the same owners and their puppies for your entire 6 weeks and this is often one of the things that owners really enjoy about our classes.

  • Absolutely! We encourage family to attend if they can, though request that not more than 5 people per puppy come to class (though do discuss this if you have a large brood). Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult and we suggest that children under 5 years of age often struggle to sit through a whole hour without distracting their parents too much. Kids are fantastic trainers, and we will work hard to make sure the entire family have the skills to teach your puppy.

  • A course runs for 6 weeks on a Wednesday evening. You will attend at the same time each Wednesday for the entirety of your booked course. Once a course finishes, a new 6 week set starts the following week so if you can’t see a time that suits, it’s likely we just haven’t opened the course for booking.

  • Life happens and in all honesty it’s rare that every owner makes every class on their course and that’s not a problem.

Whilst you can’t attend the particular week that you’ve missed by hopping onto another course, you will have all the details about what’s covered in that week in your Puppy School manual.

When you book your space, you’ll receive a professionally printed manual which details everything covered on the course week on week.

We suggest that missing more than 2 weeks in a row will make it hard work for you to keep up, so it’d be worth waiting to book the next course suitable if you know this is likely. Unfortunately we are unable to offer refunds for any courses booked and classes missed.

  • I use only kind, reward-based training methods ensuring that they are practical, effective and based upon sound evidence. I will never use harsh handling, corrections, punishment or intimidation and the welfare of your puppy will always be paramount within our training sessions.

  • There is parking on site in right in-front of Merton Park Baptist Church where the classes are held.

  • We welcome this. We’ve no doubt you’ll want to bring your puppy to Puppy School, but it’s important you’re comfortable with the training environment. Some people decide that private training is a better fit for them and their puppy, we can help with that too so can discuss this if you’d prefer.

If want to come and watch, please drop us a line first so that we can expect you and be advised, we will be focusing on the puppies and owners training on the course so won’t be able to answer lots of questions about your own puppy.
